A Bible You Can't Read

Tanaor is a jewelry company in Israel that specializes in embedding the entire King James Bible--every chapter, every letter--onto a microscopic chip smaller than a grain of rice. You can wear a necklace or bracelet in real 18-karat gold or sterling silver options. That would be a chore. It is an impressive piece of technology, and people buy it hoping to feel closer to God by keeping His word near their literal heart. But why have a Bible you can't read?

But this raises an important question, does God want His Word ON us…or IN us? Many people might touch the pendant when they feel anxious or need strength. It becomes a grounding object--much like a cross necklace or even a lucky charm. We find at times when holy objects, such as the ark of the covenant, was used in this manner. The Israelites thought they had God in their hip pocket in times of trouble. They though they could manipulate God to their will (1 Samuel 4).

Instead of using a microscope to read the Bible, let the Bible become the microscope that reads our hearts.  “O Lord, you have searched me and known me!” (Psalm 139:1). God does that searching through His Word.” His Word produces faith within us (Romans 10:17). It frees us from anxiety when we seek God and His kingdom first (Matthew 6:33). His Word guides our steps and guards us from sin (Psalm 119:105).

At the same time, how many of us have a large-print bible collecting dust on our shelves or a digital dust on our smartphone? There is no difference between a Bible you can't read and a Bible you won't read. Neither one can transform us unless we download into our hearts.
